John McCain - the mature, calming influence that he is - just had to wade into the nontroversy about Richard Sherman's post game interview.
You remember that interview, don't you? The one which stopped the earth from turning on its axis for one whole week. The one where the young NFL player called for the bombing of a sovereign country thus putting the lives and livelihood of hundreds of thousands of people at risk. Where he made degrading insulting remarks about a president's young daughter.
The one where he put the security of the nation - and the whole world - at risk by nominating a vindictive, petty, idiotic woman to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
That was what Richard Sherman did, wasn't it? Wasn't that why he was described as a "thug"some 635 times in the course of one week?
Anyway, the sagacious John McCain entered the fray with both guns blazing. He dutifully informed us that the whole country will be pulling for Peyton Manning (whom I like but most certainly will not be pulling for) and dismissed the Seahawks as "loudmouths."
Yes, I agree, as insults go, "loudmouth" is rather lame. Unless, of course, it's coming from the orifice of the President of Sump'n.
Chris Hayes (MSNBC) conducted an interview with the man of the moment, Richard Sherman, last night. Chris posited that there seem to be an attempt to make this year's Super Bowl in to an "us vs them deal; with Peyton and his team being the good guys and Sherman and the Seahawks as the bad guys."
In response and talking about the 77 yr old McCain, 25 yr old Sherman said this:
"I don't see it that way. Maybe in [McCain's] circle, but I'm sure he's said worse than that,"Bingo! He has said much, much worse and nobody called him a "thug" for his disgusting comments. In fact, he has been rewarded for his boorishness by being invited to appear on Sunday talk shows more times than any other politician other Mike Rogers for this year.
Richard Sherman is 25 years of age and his trash talking can be attributed to the passion and impetuosity of youth. To what should we attribute John McCain's intemperateness?
