Wow, what a week! Tillerson fired via Twitter by the Coward-in-Chief; Democrats flipped a +20 “safe” Republican gerrymandered seat; children take the fight to the terrorist organization known as the NRA; the UK punched Putin-the-Thug in the nose; the supremely brilliant Stephen Hawking dead at 76; a Storm(y) named Daniels seems to have staying power, and the numbnuts in the WH boasts about lying to the Prime Minister of one of our closest allies. CNN is in hog’s heaven running its breaking news banner every two seconds, and, for the first time ever, most of them are legit.
And, let me see...what else happened...
American police killed 15 20 people in this same week. American law enforcement officers have killed 253 258 people in 74 days.
Among those killed this week was a 34-year-old woman, Decynthia Clements, who was shot multiple times by cops from the Elgin Police Department in Illinois. Her death was ruled a homicide by the coroner’s office even as the PD refuses to say just how many times she was shot. What do they have to hide, I wonder?
Family and friends of the dead woman are seeking answers.
Clements' family is extremely upset about her death. They said the shooting was uncalled for, and described her as a very small woman -- being less than 100 pounds and about 4 feet 11 – not a threat to trained officers who had shields and body armor.
Just why did Decynthia have to die?
Once again we have cops killing the very person whom they claim to be in act of saving. See if you can follow this: A tiny little woman going about her business last Monday is spotted by a 19-year veteran of the police force who deems her vehicle to be suspicious...whatever the hell that means. Lieutenant Christian Jensen and his partner gave chase and then thought better of it thus allowing the woman to go about her business. Ending the pursuit was the best decision the overlords made in this horrible example of over-policing. Sometime later that same afternoon, Decynthia’s SUV was spotted by the cops a second time and again they gave chase, this time cornering the woman. And this is where it gets super weird: the cops claimed that she was armed with a knife and, of course, because she had a knife on her person it was now a life and death situation. Still no explanation as to why her vehicle was deemed “suspicious” in the first place.
Before we go on, I want to draw your attention to the definition of Over-Policing as provided by an awesome person over on YouTube.
“Over-Policing is policing that is excessive, especially as it relates to minority populations.”
Bear that definition in mind as you picture what happened to a young woman just going about her business last Monday.
Continuing with our case of another unjustified and unjustifiable murder of an innocent woman: The police manage to corner Ms. Clements because they have nothing better to do than to harass and terrorize black people. Think of her mindset as she’s confronted by two hostile white cops hellbent on dragging her into the (in)justice system.
The cops claimed that they spent an hour trying to get her out of her vehicle. They then claimed that they saw a fire in the SUV and rushed in to save her.
Police say they tried to pull her out of the burning vehicle, but something happened, and an officer ended up shooting his weapon, killing her.
But here’s the thing, they didn’t just shoot her one time as a result of that “something” happening; they shot her multiple times. How does that happen? Why does that happen? After her death, the enabling Police Chief of the Elgin PD had this to say:
“The idea that some people have that I will never be able to change is that if you come at me with a knife, that I need to wrestle it away from you or I need to let you stab me in the chest because I wear a bullet proof vest. That’s not how the real world works. You come at a police officer with a knife, you’re probably getting shot," the chief said.
Got that? “That’s not how the real world works,” he says. I’d like to suggest that it is his racist, cowardly perception of the world that is the real problem. Police all over the globe are disarming people without taking lives. For his act of bravery, Lt. Jensen was placed on administrative leave.
Again and again, we see brave cops take dangerous murderers into custody without killing them, but two burly police officers cannot disarm a tiny little black woman with a knife. Of the 243 people killed by police since January 1, 29 of them were killed because they were said to be “armed” with knives.
Do we need the Chinese to train our police force? Because they do manage to disarm people with sharp objects every day and twice on Sundays.
How about some help from the British? They seem to have mastered the art and science of policing without having to murder people to help them.
Shouldn’t cops be trained to defend themselves against knife attacks? Other than killing the suspect, that is.
- Stay mobile. Distance is your best ally against any contact weapon, so use your footwork to stay as far away as possible. Run if you can.
- Place barriers between you and the attacker. A barrier is anything your threat has to avoid or move around to get to you. This can be done by moving behind a stationary or moving object, such as a park bench or a car, or by physically placing an object between you and the attacker, such as a chair or shopping cart.
I don’t know how many ways are left for us to plead for an end to this insanity. The media doesn’t care about police killing thousands of people every year. There will be no breaking news banner for Decynthia Clements. You won’t hear her name uttered by one TV personality outside of Illinois. Just another name on the long, long list of those sent to early graves by law enforcement officers.
Demand an end to the carnage. Please.
Rest in peace, Decynthia. Your life mattered. You deserved so much more. We call your name. #JusticeForDecynthia!
