Black History Month and a Reggae Tribute to Mama Africa

Recently, the Great Obscenity occupying the White House opened their pie-hole and confirmed for the world just how ignorant they truly are. Word is, they described the continent of Africa as “Shithole countries.” Yep, they went there.

This diary is not an attempt to educate the ineducable. Little racist hatemongers will continue to believe that Africans live in huts or trees; they’ll continue to sneeringly spit out the word “tribes”— a European construct, btw — to describe the division of African societies, and they’ll continue to use the Bell Curve as their bible.  So be it. We are only here to party this evening.

Are you ready?!  Let’s go!

The development of Europe and the underdevelopment of Africa is not a mutually exclusive event but the exploitation of one to the benefit of another. ikhidero.wordpress.com/...

Africa by Dennis Brown:

The competition of capitalism was getting across to European companies and they were seeking for places where they could get raw materials for their industries at a cheaper price. Africa was their answer and so the scramble for Africa began. In the 1884 Berlin conference, this scramble came to a head when the European economic powers partitioned Africa, not for Africa’s development but, for Europe’s selfish motive.

Africa Unite by Bob Marley:

[A]ccording to the 2000 US census, immigrants born in Africa have the highest level of educational attainment in America when compared to other immigrant groups. It is also true, however, that educated African immigrants often have a difficult time finding work in their field after immigrating to western countries due to language barriers, certification criteria, and racism.
49% of African immigrants to the United States age 25 years and older possess a BA or higher compared with nearly 33% of Europeans, 45% of Asians, 6% of Central Americans, and 25% of South Americans. www.getloud.ca/...

Cry Blood Africans by the Burning Spear:

Africa’s geography includes high snowy mountains, rich tropical forest, open grassland, mixed savanna (grasslands and trees), pine forests, and temperate climates. Think of any climate in the world (except Antarctica), and you can find it somewhere in Africa.

Apartheid by Peter Tosh:

Walter Rodney’s work “How Europe Underdeveloped Africa” is an empirical investigation of the relationship between Africa and Western Europe. The time period of his study extends from 1500 to the period of decolonization of the 1960’s. Thus, Rodney’s major concern is to note by way of scientific study how, in fact, Western Europe by way of their imperialist policies toward Africa exploited its people and their resources.

Mama Africa by Peter Tosh:

The world’s oldest continuosly-operating educational institution is still functioning in Africa. University of Al-Karaouine, located in Morocco, was originally a madrassa, founded in 859 AD by Fatima al-Fihri, a woman.

(The second oldest university is also in Africa.)

African Teacher by The Burning Spear:

South Africa’s potential mineral wealth is estimated to be around $2.5tn, while the mineral reserves of the Democratic Republic of the Congo are thought to be worth $24tn.

However, the continent’s natural resources are owned and exploited by foreign, private corporations, the report said.
